Bridget's Amazing Modelling Portfolio Photoshoot.

Wow what can I say, what a great gal! We created all these shots in one afternoon at a favourite harbour beach location. It's got a bit of everything, beach,, bush, some classic old architecture, the sea! Well the sea in the harbour. It even has amazing marine life too. And it was Bridget's first trip to this park so not only did she have a great time on her first ever photoshoot she loved the location as well. She is also very happy with the results and wrote this very kind review over on my Facebook page here.

"I think Kent's clear skill at photography and his sense of artistic creativity make him a perfect choice as a photographer, be it for the fashion industry or for personal portrait photography. Besides being a world class photographer with a deep knowledge of art and fashion, Kent has a lovely personality and is definitely a fun and friendly guy to work with. I really enjoyed my shoot with Kent and would recommend him to anyone in need of a great photographer!"

My Equipment and a Photography Portfolio for Shotkit!

A few week back, no a few months back.. Mark from Shotkit approached me to see if I would like to be part of his website that highlights photographers work; and the photography equipment, the 'shotkit' they use to produce their photographs. Now while I have largely shied away from all sorts of gear-porn, I do love the shotkit website and what Mark has done with it. And having subscribed I was enjoying seeing the photography and the kits of photographers from all around the world. So in a nutshell I said yes to the request to take part, did the kit shots; AND a pretty fabulous story about the kit(s) I use; my writing really is improving all the time, even if I do say so myself! I also put to together a  much larger selection of pictures for Shotkit than they were ever going to be able to run, but hey you gotta give it a go.. The post went live a few weeks back; so now I can reveal the complete series of shots I put together for the first time. SO if you want to READ all about it; you need to click this link to check out the story of my equipment too. Go on, I know you want to; and it's well worth subscribing while you are there.

So here's the selection which includes my Street Fashion Sydney -personal work - photo kit and shots as well. It was a great exersize putting the shots together and the story behind the equipment, I highly recommend it; and as an added bonus I have a succinct portfolio of my work for showing on my tablet at last! Thanks Mark, thanks Shotkit, it's been a lot of fun. http://shotkit.com/kent-johnson/

Creative Photographer for the City of Sydney..

You know this just might have been my dream job for the next year or two. Regular income, regular shoots for clients(??) A 40 hour week (well so they said). All you had to do was apply. Well no actually you had to tender for the role - but don't worry you won't need to work out how much to charge us, we have 80K for the role and its all yours. You just have to do your own Super, pay your insurances, indemnify the City against anything that might go wrong along the way, waiver all rights to the images, may be used for international marketing purposes, you may have to meet short deadlines, the hours may be outside office ours, etc etc. OK maybe not the dream job I had been dreaming of; not for that sort of money and I have serious doubts the job can be done in 40 hours a week; well maybe occasionally, and that's without any solid briefs to go by. Good point; how to decide if it's a year of grip-and-grin event work (which would be about about triple the 80K at least in the commercial market if you had the hours) or some sort of even more profitable commercial work. 80K, you aren't looking so good; and its not really a job; you get "embedded" with the council. At least it's Sydney not Iraq!!!

So I decided not to apply for my dream job, but I did think it would be a good exercise to put together a presentation of Love You Sydney photographic work. After all I have been shooting my personal project Street Fashion Sydney since 2008 and have been invited to lots of great fashion & marketing events, and like everyone else I have done my of share grip and grin shoots too over the years. But what would the panel be looking for? Apparently "MORE than just documentation" "creative" "photography". Hell I reckon that's my main problem, I have been a little too creative for way too long; and I feel like I haven't even gotten started! So from over 300 Street Fashion Sydney blog posts, and a few shots that have never been seen before here's the portfolio that might have, or might not have put me on the short list. BUT If YOU like what you SEE - I'm here in Sydney, I am still freelancing, and I am taking bookings direct right now.
