Vintage Fashion Now - Smokin' Hot - Not Retro..

I love vintage fashion, seems everyone does and there is nothing wrong with that! I even have a client that makes 'vintage' fashion frocks and they are doing very well indeed. Vintage is "so hot right now" - agreed! But what am I saying in the tile of this post? Not Retro.. What's that about? In Lagerfeld Confidential Karl Lagerfeld remarks that he is "not interested in the past, just the future - and by the future I don't mean the next 10 years or 5, no the next 6 months, the next fashion cycle".

And yet no-one works with Chanel's past better than Karl. By respecting the tradition of Chanel, Karl makes it all new; bringing Chanel into it the Now; re-working, re-modelling, re-inventing.

That's been my approach to this 'Vintage' inspired shoot with pocket-rocket model Ellie. Sure we shot 80's lingerie and swimwear and even a black beaded evening dress from?? But you would never think these pictures were made 'back in the day'. I was not trying to recreate the past - the past is over. I like my Vintage New, I like it Now and I like it Strong & HOT ; I hope you like it that way too.

Anyier Jok - Modelling Portfolio - Sydney

Anyier must have the longest legs I have ever, ever seen and I have seen some long legs before. And at 184cm tall she is really very tall as well; but those legs, yes hard to ignore so I maintained focus on them and Anyier's great sense of humour and happiness and some great movement too. We went with a distinctive Grace Jones look for the headshot and the orange skirt series as an optional gate-fold on the Comp Card.

Indie and Alternative Fashion Portfolio Photography..

Men's Portfolio Shoot - Alex at Chadwick Models Sydney

Three looks, more or less and way too many pictures to choose from. Well better too many than too few as I always say; still we have the edit down to eight (for now) and these all taken on location using natural light and nothing else. Good to get out of the office for a change, but then in photography the office really can be anywhere! Styling was done from a blend of Alex's and my gear, grooming by Katharine Shaw who has recently arrived from the UK (and is heading to Melbourne soon). I'm looking forward to doing a lot more portfolio work this year as I find these photo shoots very rewarding.

Lightbox Fashion Flat Lay for Harlette Lingerie with the X-Pro1

Just four shots here of some beautiful lingerie house coats photographed for the Harlette Lingerie label.  The garments are now being shown in Paris at the 50th Salon De La Lingerie. These four housecoats were the largest pieces I photographed on the day and were a tight squeeze to fit on the second large STROBE Swimming Pool head that was set up as the lightbox. This was the first time I have photographed fashion in this manner and both myself and my client are very happy with the results.

Although I have done flat lay before (and a little light table work) there is no doubt in my mind that this was the best possible lighting option for these fabrics and the SWAROVSKI Elements and feather details. As the saying goes STROBE light gives you an extra camera format (think 35mm suddenly being = to 6x6) and as in my previous write up about using the X-Pro1 the X-Trans sensor was a great match for the STROBE. Part of the uniqueness of the STROBE lights is that the flash tubes are very long, over four feet and there are five in each Swimming Pool creating a very strong and even of a 'wall' of light. Here are the results..
