A Modelling Portfolio With A View

If you go looking through my portfolio of fashion images you would be hard pressed to find pictures with well known landmarks. This is simply because Fashion Photography might love luxury, edgy, cool, dark, sexy, whatever; and even the lure of travel - but it's the outfits that have to shine. So the landscape and landmarks almost always play second fiddle to the clothes and the model or the model and the clothes... I suppose that makes the location third, not even second place! But every so often, the landscape or a landmark is required to make a statement about the 'where' and in the case of this photoshoot, the 'who' as well. That's because it is a modelling portfolio shoot for a non local who before leaving Australia, wanted a portfolio to kick start their modelling career when they returned to Germany.

So the landmark here, must be unmistakable, the Sydney Opera House and it's always-there dance partner, the Sydney Harbour Bridge. But its still a portfolio shoot and for that kind of picture the model is the key - I don't want the location to dominate the picture, just lend some GPS coordinates and local charm.

I love the Sydney Harbour Bridge and it's Art Deco forms cast in old concrete. Two 20th century Australian Icons. In these shots they do not dominate but they tell you where we are, Sydney, by the harbour, Australia. So we photographed on the bridge, under the bridge, beside, the bridge, and even went to the other side of Sydney Cove to the Opera House and shot on the north promenade, with Linus jogging at the Opera House as so many people do! Yes it's pretty casual in Australia. It was Linus's first photoshoot, and he did well, we did well. Scroll down, check out the shots. If you are on a laptop or desktop computer, click the pictures to see them bigger! Need a portfolio or fashion pictures, just get in contact and let me know.

Teo - Studio Modelling Portfolio from Sydney to L.A.

It's curious how often I am booked for portfolios for (soon to be) models who are in Sydney yet planning on starting their modelling career overseas. They are often from overseas already - I will simply put it down to my work looking less trend driven and more of a classic, international fashion and model photography style. And I think its fair to say when you look at my model portfolio shots, you really SEE the model. You don't look at these shots and wonder what this model looks like - you KNOW what this model looks like. This is essential when you are starting out in fashion; potential clients want to know what you look like; it's how you get the call up, the go-see, the call back - because they like the way you look, and can see what you can do for their project. In fashion, image is everything.

Teo was scouted a few years back at a shopping centre back in the States. Her parents who are both from the USA, working here in Sydney Australia decided to give Teo and iPOP a shot. Which is where I came in, with a fairly specific portfolio brief to shoot. Those requirements were quite simply the classic requirements that are the basis of all my 'getting started' portfolio shoots. A great headshot. Full length for legs and body, how you look shots, you know, how tall do you look! Fitness shots, casual and classic. And for this shoot we needed a comp card too; that's a part of my studio package already so all good! We also got some fab personality shots full of Teo's great energy, and ended up with what I call the good problem - too many terrific shots, more pictures than we could use. So some of them are appearing here for the first time along with the comp card and shots from Teo's final selection. I hope you enjoy them, and of course, if you need a portfolio, follow the links for details and hit me up!

From Teo's mum Sandra.
"Kent was fabulous! I took my daughter for her first fashion photoshoot and Kent made her feel confident and glamorous. He also held my hand throughout the process of picking the best photos, because we had so many great shots, it was hard to choose!. The photos were just amazing. This was a great experience for both of us. The stylist and hair and make-up ladies that Kent brought, Vivienne and Cynthia, were also great. Thanks, Kent!"

Baraka Fashion with Ksenija Lukich - On Location, Sydney, Australia.

My location photo shoot for Baraka Women's Fashion label was produced a little before Ksenija landed her new gig with !E Australia.  Congratulations Ksenija! I am thrilled about your new role.
It's always great working with designers and models who really do live their dreams. This is my fourth photo shoot for Baraka and our first on location. The beautiful textured wall was chosen to reflect a change in direction for the designer while not being a 'complete outdoor' departure from the indoor studio look of our previous shoots. All images are for use across the designers web site and social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram and traditional media.
