Lingerie Inspired Fashion - The Hunger Games meets The Age of Glamour

This shoot started with an email in July or August last year, about shooting a range, in 2022. It seemed such a long lead time, I wondered if it would happen. We had a mood board. A long siesta.. then back to it. The words were Lingerie and The Hunger Games, the mood board inspo was elegance.  I found some good location options. Then as we closed in on our shoot date the weather really turned on us. We started thinking studio - then my partner suggested hotels. Of course! I've been shooting them for White Caviar Life for years now, how did this not occur to me; an interior location for around the same cost as a studio!

We went with The Old Clare Hotel which has an inspired mix of old and new - and - heating! I dialled that thermostat up to 28 C the minute I got in the room. Our talent for the shoot was dancer, Micaela who was a great choice for our story in four outfits.

 I was looking for moody, not dark, vintage but not old fashioned.

We changed it up a bit, or laid it down.. the model anyway - with her feet up.

 

We shot four looks and included front and back shots and worked on capturing key details. Like the splits in the pants in the opening shot of this blog. The fabric panels, the shape and drape of the sleeves. Look at those sleeves! How can you not want to find a way to feature them, so beautiful! I'm glad we opted for the room. Though it was not as large as a studio, it gave us enough of the world to help us tell this fashion story, a little mystery, moody though not dark, vintage but not old fashioned.

Hush Hush, Lingerie and Swimwear in the Studio.

Sometimes you just have to come back to a shoot and show a few more shots; that is certainly the case here. Yes a few years back yes; but I love studio as (a) location shoots and this portfolio shoot has remained a favourite of mine. These shot post processed as Black and White, which is also how I did the originals. And what is Monica doing wagging that finger? Hush hush, I will never tell...

Fine Art meets Fashion in Creative Lingerie Flat Lay Photography.

When you have the privilege of photographing Couture Lingerie for Harlette; when it comes to blogging the pictures.. well it's one of those times I really wish the pictures on this blog were a LOT bigger. But then the size of the post would be somewhat-over-the-top and out-of-control! Not to worry, you can certainly still enjoy the fine art feeling and details of these Couture pieces. One of the biggest surprises for me, yes I was surprised.. is how well these images are printing as small 6" x 4" postcard mailers from the Epson Inkjet when printing on the 310gsm Canson - Etching Rag paper. The images are crisp and radiant and the reason behind the title of this blog post; having been told a number of times after showing the prints, 'these shots are an exhibition,  just do it'. So here are some of my favourites including the Couture Northern Lights Housecoat worn by Billie Piper in Secret Diary of  a Call Girl and Lara Stone for ID magazine. All the images were made using a somewhat exotic lighting set-up based around two vintage STROBE Swimming Pool heads, one fitted with a second diffusion box as the light table and the other head cantilevered over the top (picture below). What I love about using the STROBE is it's unique light quality; each head is fitted with 5 x 5 foot long flash tubes that fire for a very short duration producing very even and clean light. There is nothing else quite like it. What's next? Well it would be great to be commissioned to shoot some editorials for some magazines, lovely full page 'fine art' flat lays, now that would be nice!

Fashion Modelling Portfolio - Lisa M

Finding the best looks for your portfolio is is part of the way I work creating the most compelling and beautiful images for you.

I've had some interesting and very positive feedback from Lisa's modelling portfolio shoot; "Stunning", "She looks like a movie star", "gorgeous" and that's from showing just a few shots on my phone... And this was Lisa's first ever photo shoot so I think we all did pretty well. I thought the multiple movie star responses were quite interesting as she does have that great 'classic cinema' actress look; she looks like a woman not a waif which is something I don't think we see enough of these days and it is nice to see a woman that wears a bikini or lingerie in a strong and positive way. 

All these shots were taken from my 'Basic' modelling portfolio package shoot and I think you can see there is nothing basic about this package at all. The only problem is deciding which shots to use! And that's a great problem to have. One sometimes solved by selecting an extra shot or two and putting a comp card together, all done and good to go.

Harlette Lingerie, Luxury UK Classics Shot in Sydney

While in Sydney last year UK based luxury brand Harlette lingerie approached me about shooting three of their new ranges. We had a few discussions about what model they would like to use and then I remembered Miss Universe 2012 contestant Carly Everett, who in my opinion looks more than a little like Sydney's favourite model Jennifer Hawkins! She is now also signed with  Platform Models which I hear is the same agency 'our Jen' started her modelling career with.

We decided to shoot at the lovely white on white Elephant Studio in Rosebery. But Carly was not the only model on set! She had to work very hard to outshine two lovely poodles in several shots; not as easy as you may think with those lovely pooches working hard for the camera's attention too.. The lovely Kaori did a fabulous job with the hair and make-up as always and here are the results. I hope you enjoy the shots. And of course I am looking forward to photographing more high fashion lingerie in the future.

Shot for a film casting; I can't say anything about the role but I can say Hello Italy! I think we have shots both womanly and strong then some with a beautiful vulnerability. Talk about versatile!
